DIETITIAN, NUTRITIONIST OR HEALTH COACH?

Don’t be fooled when it comes to hiring the person who will help you to transform your diet/eating patterns. Whats the difference? Education and scope of practice! A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a nutrition professional that has received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in nutrition and dietetics. Dietitians (RDNs) have completed a dietetic internship with greater than one thousand hours of supervised practice, passed an entrance exam and obtained a license to practice in their state(s). Similar to physicians and nurses, continuing education hours are required in order to maintain our credentials. Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy; treating and managing diseases and other conditions with science-based food and nutrition information. Anyone can refer to themselves as a nutritionist or health coach; and, although some may have a degree in nutrition, they are not able to diagnose, treat or provide medical nutrition advice.
